Offensive schemes across the NFL are slowly ebbing back toward the run game. With more and more pass-rushing 280-lb. defensive tackles and 220-lb. coverage linebackers, offensive coordinators are willing to pound the ball in order to exploit weaknesses. The 2025 season featured a remarkable 17 rushers who eclipsed 1,000 yards, the most since 2006.
This pivot to the ground game includes the Tush Push, which 31 other teams have shown a willingness to use, but the Kansas City Chiefs have unequivocally avoided any form of a quarterback sneak since Patrick Mahomes’ knee dislocation during a sneak at Mile High Stadium in Denver in 2019. The closest Andy Reid has come is running a backup tight end in motion to operate the sneak. That could change in 2026.
Saints offensive weapon Taysom Hill enters free agency this spring after his age-35 season, and if he is willing to keep playing, the Chiefs could emerge as a welcome suitor. In nine seasons as a Saint, Hill has played in just six postseason games, scoring a touchdown in the only conference championship game he has ever appeared in. There is speculation that Hill may retire, but the chance to pursue a ring with Patrick Mahomes could sway the BYU product into one last go-round.
Taysom Hill could make sense as a versatile veteran addition to help give Andy Reid some options in much-needed spots.
That BYU connection is another reason one might point to the Chiefs as a potential landing spot for Hill, as it is Reid’s alma mater. Though Hill would not be relied upon as a starter at any one position for the Chiefs, it is his versatility that makes him valuable. The 6'2", 220-lb. Hill can line up at running back, quarterback, and tight end.
Fun fact:

Taysom Hill is the only player in the Super Bowl era to achieve:

• 1,000 receiving yards

Occupying one roster spot as a tight end, H-back, and third quarterback, Hill can provide depth while giving Reid a valuable tool in an offense that has been needing some new wrinkles. Reid likes to get creative, particularly inside the red zone, so the addition of Hill could be a very enticing transaction for the Chiefs in free agency.
