Chiefs may be able to benefit from another monumental Jerry Jones mistake

Could it happen? After what Jerry Jones has shown us in the past, don't count anything out.

Every Kansas City Chiefs fan is thinking the same thing, this offseason, when it comes to the team's offense.

They need another playmaker or two. Whether that's in the back field, at wide receiver, or both. This offense needs more, period. Forget the fact that Patrick Mahomes isn't going to be back from his torn ACL until later in the 2026 season. We need Brett Veach to really start thinking about the future of this offense.

The group still does not have a true number one wide receiver, and that's the premise, here. A would-be colossal mistake by Jerry Jones could see the Dallas Cowboys screw up their situation with wide receiver George Pickens, and in that case, anything could happen.

Now, while all signs point to the Cowboys using the franchise tag on George Pickens, we have seen that, in this NFL world, we should never rule out a monumental mistake made by none other than Jerry Jones.

The Chiefs would have a golden opportunity in front of them if Jerry Jones screws up the George Pickens situation

If we've learned anything about the Cowboys, it's never to trust what comes out of Jones' mouth until a situation is completely and 100 percent resolved. Just look at what happened last year with Micah Parsons.

In the scenario where Pickens somehow ends up testing the market, Kansas City would have to do whatever it took to land him. He is their best shot at landing a true alpha wide receiver, even outside of any potential first-round pick this year, because we know he's the sure thing.

Sure, there are some questions to answer, with the big one coming in regards to the Chiefs' cap situation. But, let's leave those details to Veach. We know the cap can be manipulated via restructures, cuts, etc.

If Pickens somehow becomes fair game for the rest of the league, Kansas City would be the best-possible landing spot for the former Pittsburgh Steeler. He'd have to wait a little while for top-tier quarterback play, but when Mahomes returns, it's game on.

What the Chiefs lost after trading Tyreek Hill has yet to come back to this offense. But, with Pickens, they'd have that true alpha in the room. With defenses tending more to Pickens, it would open things up for Xavier Worthy to continue his late-season surge from last year. It would also open things up for ... dare I say, Jeremiyah Love? Breece Hall? Travis Etienne?

Chiefs fans will have to be patient, waiting for Mahomes, but just imagine the possibilities in a world where somehow, some way, Jerry Jones allows Pickens to come to Kansas City.

In all likelihood, it doesn't happen. But, for just a moment, think about it.
