The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with numerous injury concerns on the offensive side, and the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos introduced another name to that list. Left tackle Wanya Morris went down during the team's third drive of the game after a nice 8-yard catch by tight end Travis Kelce and sought attention from the team's medical staff.
The Chiefs have officially stated Morris is "questionable" to return.
Morris is the Chiefs' starting left tackle and has been for the last seven games after having taken over the role from rookie Kingsley Suamataia in Week 2.
The Chiefs came into this season ushering in a sort of youth movement at left tackle after having Donovan Smith largely hold down the role in 2023. The Chiefs selected Morris in the third round out of Oklahoma in the 2023 NFL Draft and followed that up with the selection of Suamataia out of Brigham Young in the second round of the 2024 draft.
Between Morris and Suamataia, the Chiefs were hoping to find a long-term answer at a position that's been a bit of a revolving door since Eric Fisher was released a few years ago. Suamataia was handed the position as he entered camp with the Chiefs and was given every opportunity to hold down a starting role next to Joe Thuney on the left side but it didn't work out as hoped.
The Chiefs watched Suamataia struggle in the first two games of the season before putting in Morris to close out the team's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and Morris has held down the starting role since then. Without him, the Chiefs are going to be forced to roll with any rookie mistakes up front and pray that no further injuries take place for a team without any obvious backup for the rest of Week 10 with Ethan Driskell listed as inactive.
