The Kansas City Chiefs were bound to lose Mike Borgonzi sooner or later.
After serving with the organization for 16 years under three general managers, Borgonzi has been present for the entire ascent of the Chiefs as an organization from its disastrous turns under Scott Pioli's leadership to its present status as the NFL's premiere franchise. Now the Tennesee Titans will hope Borgonzi can replicate some of those achievements with a new team.
The Titans officially hired Borgonzi to be their new general manager on Friday, according to NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler..
The Chiefs first hired Borgonzi back in 2009 after he'd served as a liaison with Boston College with NFL scouts (think Matt Ryan's draft season). The networking in that job landed him a role with the Chiefs, and Borgonzi has climbed the organizational ladder since then—with a breadth of experience in every facet of front office work.
Given his vocational versatility and longevity with the Chiefs, Borgonzi has been identified as a hot GM candidate for the last couple of years, which is why he also earned a look from the Washington Commanders before they hired Adam Peters in 2024.
Borgonzi was promoted to his current post of assistant general manager for the Chiefs back in 2021. Since then, he's worked closely with Brett Veach on celebrated draft classes and the roster construction of multiple Super Bowl victors.
The New York Jets were also very interested in Borgonzi, but the Titans pulled the trigger quickly in their search for a new GM and lured Borgonzi away.
