It's no secret to anyone that the Kansas City Chiefs are going to go shopping on the open market for an offensive tackle as free agency begins. They were already rumored to be interested in the best option that could have become available—Baltimore Ravens tackle Ronnie Stanley—but his re-signing to stay with the team that drafted him blocked that route entirely.
The latest NFL rumors have the teams that missed out on Stanley—including the Chiefs—moving on to a new target in veteran OT Morgan Moses.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Chiefs are showing interest in Moses along with a few other teams as the legal tampering period begins for NFL free agency on Monday. (The new league year begins on Wednesday, which is when teams can sign players officially.)
Morgan Moses could be the newest veteran stopgap solution for the Chiefs at left tackle.
Other teams are also in the hunt for Moses, the New York Jets employed him last season and are making a push to retain him going forward. Per Russini, however, the Chiefs, Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals, and New England Patriots are also in the mix.
If the Chiefs are interested in Moses, it's another veteran stopgap solution at a position that's had its fill of such attempts. D.J. Humphries was last season's signing. Donovan Smith came before that. Moses is 34 years old with 11 seasons under his belt in the league. There are upsides to that body of experience, of course, but it's clear the Chiefs might not land a long-term solution this offseason—at least one they can count on.
General manager Brett Veach is likely to try to find a potential starter in the NFL Draft, so Moses' presence, if signed, could provide the bridge needed to develop someone taken early on draft weekend.
Moses started 14 games for the Jets last season and has 158 total starts in his NFL career. He spent his first seven seasons with Washington and two other seasons with the Ravens.
