Fear not Kansas City Chiefs fans -- Mike Pennel is back for another season! According to Adam Schefter, the team re-signed the defensive tackle on Monday. This will be his fifth year in Kansas City and 11th season overall.

Pennel went undrafted out of Colorado State-Pueblo but found a spot on the Packers roster in 2014. He spent three seasons with the Packers, two seasons with the Jets, and then signed with the Chiefs the first time in 2019 where he helped the team win its first Super Bowl in 50 years.

Pennel played for K.C. in 2020 as well before leaving for the Falcons in 2021 and playing for the Bears in 2022. He returned to Kansas City in 2023 and has been a Chief ever since.

Mike Pennel re-signs with Chiefs

Pennel is coming off a season where he had three sacks and two QB hits in 17 games and made seven starts. The three sacks were a career high for Pennel, who is entering his age 34 season this year.

Matt McMullen of Chiefs.com wrote that "Pennel was graded as the Chiefs' top defensive tackle against the run last season by Pro Football Focus". So yes, even with Pennel in his mid-30s, the team clearly thinks he can still help this defense out.

The Chiefs and Pennel clearly have a good relationship and let's hope he can set yet another sack record in 2025.
