Chiefs just watched Lamar Jackson take the easy way out of a loss

Kansas City fans know Patrick Mahomes would never do what Ravens fans are accusing Jackson of.

The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten off to some rough starts in recent years, but as always, Andy Reid and the crew make a full recovery and end up exactly where they want to be in February. This season felt a bit different, however, sitting at 1-2 with the Baltimore Ravens on the horizon in Week 4.

Baltimore jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on Sunday, but then, it was pretty much all Kansas City. Two Ravens turnovers sparked 20 unanswered points by the Chiefs, and the game got ugly from there, with Kansas City emerging by a score of 37-20, thanks to a garbage-time Baltimore touchdown.

With the Chiefs up 30-13 near the end of the third quarter, the defense brought down Ravens star Lamar Jackson for a sack to end the drive. When Baltimore trotted out for their next offensive possession, backup Cooper Rush was under center, as Jackson suffered an apparent injury.

Jackson has dealt with numerous injuries in his NFL career thus far, so the news was not all that shocking. But Ravens fans began making baseless statements on social media about him quitting on the team, believing that Jackson would have gone back into the game had it been closer.

This was substantiated by fans noting that no medical personnel were surrounding the star quarterback after he left the game, and head coach John Harbaugh had this to say in his postgame press conference:

"I don't have any updates on the seriousness of injuries right now," Harbaugh said. "There's nothing that looks like it's season-ending, by any stretch, for anybody, but we'll have to look at those injuries tomorrow and see where we're at going forward."

It doesn't exactly sound like Jackson suffered a serious injury, so Chiefs fans could speculate that Jackson took the easy way out in a lopsided loss. Jackson is a tremendous player who has given Kansas City fits at times, so nobody would blame him for sitting out of this beatdown.

Chiefs fans, however, are grateful to have a quarterback as tough as Patrick Mahomes in moments like these. From having his dislocated knee popped back in place on the field or playing on bum ankles on more than one occasion, Mahomes has powered through injuries to stay on the field many times.

Kansas City could meet Baltimore again in the AFC playoffs if the Ravens find a way to right the ship, and they will surely be out for blood, led by their star quarterback. Ideally, Jackson makes a quick recovery from whatever is plaguing him, whether it be a significant ailment or just feeling hopeless in a loss.
