While there are still several holes to fill on Andy Reid's coaching staff (and even more potential coaches to be fired), the Kansas City Chiefs have also begun the work of adding new faces. This week has already brought a reunion with longtime offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who is back in the same role after a three-year absence. The other new hire joining him is Chad O'Shea.
The Chiefs hired O'Shea away from the Cleveland Browns to serve as their new wide receivers coach. It's a very familiar post for O'Shea, who has been coaching the position for decades. He was with Cleveland in the same capacity for six seasons (from 2020-25), and coached the same position for the New England Patriots from 2009-18).
In those ten seasons in Foxborough, O'Shea won three Super Bowls as part of Bill Belichick's coaching staff. He was also able to work alongside some truly great offensive players from the era. One of those, former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, recently provided some glowing reports about O'Shea when asked about the Chiefs' newest coach.
Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski recently spoke about the addition of his former coach Chad O'Shea
In a recent appearance on Up & Adams with host Kay Adams, Gronk spoke about a number of subjects and was asked about O'Shea's addition to Andy Reid's staff. Here's a look at the transcript:
Kay Adams: The Chiefs hired Chad O'Shea. Do you see that?
Rob Gronkowski: I actually just saw that this morning and I'm pumped about it. Chad O'Shea is responsible… I wouldn't say responsible for Randy Moss's and Wes Walker's career in New England, but I would say he's responsible for Julian Edelman’s career in New England, that's for sure.
But Chad O'Shea, I mean, he was there in the prime of Randy Moss and Wes Walker at the wide receiver position. He was the wide receiver coach. He helped establish that and help that offense grow, help those wide receivers be on the same page as Tom Brady.
And he's got so much knowledge of the game of football. I love Chad. I associate with myself with him at practice all the time. We always chit-chatted. We had a great time talking about things.
Kay Adams: What can K.C. fans expect from him?
Rob Gronkowski: I'm a smart guy, very smart, knows the game of football, no doubt about it. He was an offensive coordinator before, but I truly believe that he fits at the wide receiver position better than any other coach out there. I wouldn't say better than any other. I would just say he's a top prospect. He's a top guy, probably a top-three wide receiver coach in the NFL. There's no doubt about that.
But I’m telling you, his knowledge and the way that he could connect with players as well. It's not just about coaching and knowing what you know about football and knowing everything inside and out. It's how you connect with these guys and how can you bring the best out of them. And that's what he does. And that's why he's so great.
