Chiefs just got the green light to save Tyreek Hill from Dolphins' dysfunction

Could a reunion be in the works?

Some big news came out of the Miami Dolphins organization on Wednesday, as the team announced they'd be benching former first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa for the final three games of the season. That prompted Dolphins and former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill to pop off on social media, as he's been prone to do.

Hill posted a peace sign emoji paired with a gif of someone giving a peace sign and then vanishing on his X account shortly after the news of Tagovailoa's benching was announced. This message seems to point to Hill saying he'll be peacing out of Miami now that his quarterback has been benched.

Tyreek Hill makes it clear that he wants out of Miami

Of course, people will see Hill's latest antics and automatically assume the Chiefs would be a fit for him. After all, Hill spent the first six years of his career in Kansas City after the Chiefs selected him in the fifth round of the draft in 2016 and he soon rose to being one of the best wide receivers in the entire league.

When Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback in 2019, Hill's stats only got better. He had 15 touchdowns in the 2020 season and it was darn near impossible to stop him and Mahomes when the two were on the same page.

Considering the Chiefs' current situation at wide receiver, bringing Hill back isn't a crazy idea by any stretch. The experiment of Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy as the main trio hasn't worked so why not try to bring Hill back and see if he still has anything left in the tank?

The problem is that Hill's contract makes him someone the Chiefs (or anybody really) would not want to trade for. He has a roughly $52 million cap hit in 2026 so if Hill really wants to move on and the Dolphins truly are committed to rebuilding, cutting him and absorbing the dead money would be the way to go. Would they be willing to do that?

Another question to ask is if this is the move the Chiefs want to make to improve their offense moving forward? As good as Hill was during his time in Kansas City, he'll turn 32 years old in March and is coming off an ACL injury. Something else to consider is that Mahomes is also coming off an ACL injury and might miss the beginning of the 2026 season so would Hill want to play with a backup quarterback to start the year?

This won't be the last time we talk about Hill potentially rejoining the Chiefs because it really does make a lot of sense. He wants out of Miami and the Chiefs have a need for him. Will it end up happening though? That remains to be seen.
