The Kansas City Chiefs have a way of eventually getting what they want. Perhaps that will apply to Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp in the near future.

The Rams have made it clear to Kupp that he is being shopped around the National Football League this offseason, and Kupp announced their plans to the rest of the world with a post on Twitter (or X) that stirred the NFL rumor mill immediately.

Here's Kupp's post from Monday.

Immediately, fans of every NFL team began to surmise whether or not they would be in play for Kupp (just like the Myles Garrett rumors earlier in the day), but for Kansas City Chiefs, it's the second time in a few short months that Kupp's name has surfaced as a potential acquisition.

Remember that back in October, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Chiefs and Rams had discussed the parameters of a potential deal. Kupp was never dealt, however, and the Chiefs moved on to the Tennessee Titans who were partners on a trade for DeAndre Hopkins.

Russini's report is important to reflect on because it included a couple of important details. First, the Chiefs weren't looking to deal high picks at the time. They were also wanting the Rams to eat a significant portion of Kupp's salary. Both of those are likely still true going into the offseason as the Chiefs will be cap-strapped with other targets to extend as well.

That said, previous interest should be an indicator that the Chiefs will at least make the call once again to see what is possible.

Kupp comes with a massive cap hit of nearly $30 million in 2025 alone and another $27.3 million in 2026. Those numbers would have to be adjusted one way or another, although there are ways to make things work—including an extension, the Rams eating some costs, etc.

But just how much do the Chiefs really want a receiver with a spotty injury history and such a cap hit? Even if the Rams were to eat some salary, they're going to want decent draft assets for their troubles—which makes sense—but the Chiefs have Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy already as a dynamic duo to lead the WR room for years to come. Adding Kupp would definitely elevate the offense, but a smaller deal for a Hollywood Brown-type of signing makes much more sense with the way the Chiefs' books are laid out.

Typically, the idea of Kupp even being traded to the Chiefs at all would feel like an improbable long shot but the previous talks about a deal make things at least more plausible or interesting. Suffice it to say, it's going to be an interesting offseason in Kansas City.
