Numerous franchises have already been clamoring for an up-close look at East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel before the 2025 NFL Draft, but the entire league will be on notice to hear the results of his official medical recheck coming up in Indianapolis.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, the results of Revel's appointment in Indy could alter the team's approach in the first round of the upcoming first-year player draft knowing how much the corner could impact the future of the team's secondary.
If medical red flags weren't a part of the equation, Revel would be a lock to be taken in the first round and likely in the first half of all picks. That's the reason why some teams in that range—including the Colts—are already checking in on him. Per NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings are also kicking the tires on Revel this week.
Shavon Revel's medical update will be of interest to every NFL team for the 2025 draft.
Last September, Revel went down in practice for the Pirates with a torn ACL that sidelined him for the rest of the year. Instead of showcasing his skill set as a potential lockdown corner, he spent the year rehabbing from surgery in order to get ready for the draft and alleviate concerns going forward. Revel's doctor, Daniel Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys, sent a note to all NFL teams in February saying that the corner is on track to return to the field by summer.
The Chiefs are picking at No. 31 overall and stand to potentially benefit from Revel's questionable draft stock. If teams want to avoid any red flags with such an early pick, they could gloss over using an earlier selection on someone still on the mend. For the Chiefs, however, such an upside play at a vital position would be a major win at the bottom of the first round.
Revel is an ideal candidate for Steve Spagnuolo's defense. He's 6'2" with long arms and elite speed. He's physical and aggressive and the Chiefs' track record of coaching up such talents would make the potential of adding Revel's ceiling to the mix too hard to pass up for K.C. if given the chance.
The Chiefs have expressed an interest in extending Trent McDuffie beyond the 2025 campaign as he comes into a contract year, but the team also stands to lose Jaylen Watson, Joshua Williams, and Nazeeh Johnson, among others, after this season. Kristian Fulton is signed through 2026, but adding Revel would keep the unit elite for years to come.
The truth is that Revel could be long gone by the time the Chiefs are on the clock in the 2025 NFL Draft's first round. But medical concerns have forced other prospects to fall in previous years and Revel might be a candidate this time around.
