With the signing of Omarr Normann-Lott to a four-year contract, the Kansas City Chiefs now have the entirety of their 2025 NFL Draft class officially signed. And that's good news for their ability to get to work for an important season ahead.
Norman-Lott was the Chiefs' second-round selection out of the University of Tennessee at No. 63 overall in this year's draft. He was one of two significant defensive line investments, and his presence means big things for the team's defense anchor, Chris Jones.
Omarr Norman-Lott has officially signed before training camp begins for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs, like many other teams, had to wonder whether or not Norman-Lott would even be able to practice when the team's training camp opens on July 21 in St. Joseph, Missouri. It's then that every Chiefs player is expected to be ready at Missouri Western State University to prepare for the regular season.
Rookie contracts aren't normally a sticking point like they were before the current collective bargaining agreement. However, second-round choices were slower to sign this season due to demands for more guaranteed money than ever before, a move prompted by the ability of the round's top selections to get fully guaranteed deals (among other factors).
With Norman-Lott under wraps, Chiefs Kingdom should have fun learning more about his disruptive potential inside. Stamina is an issue after serving only as a rotational piece for Tennessee last season, but the Chiefs aren't going to call on Norman-Lott for starter's reps. His talent will allow Chris Jones to rest more, which is vital given Jones's importance to the team's defensive success.
Jones played a career-high 83 percent of all defensive snaps in the same year he turned 30 years old. The Chiefs are so fortunate to have Jones in his prime (although they're certainly paying him for the privilege), but lightening the load is such an obvious need going forward that the Chiefs jumped on Norman-Lott a full round earlier than most draft projections.
The good news is that Norman-Lott is now ready to go, which means the Chiefs can begin to understand just how much they can rest Jones and use the new faces together in tandem for the best possible pass rush approach in 2025.
