This move wouldn't shock anyone in Chiefs Kingdom.

The Kansas City Chiefs have plenty of holes on their roster this offseason but there might not be a bigger one than at cornerback. The Chiefs traded Trent McDuffie to the Rams while Jaylen Watson also departed for Los Angeles and that has left K.C. with a starting cornerback group of Nohl Williams, Kristian Fulton, and Kader Kohou. Not ideal, to say the least.

Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports listed every team's biggest need and the best fits for that need in free agency and the draft. For the Chiefs, the biggest need listed was -- you guessed it -- cornerback. The free-agent fit that Pereles thought was best for Kansas City was former Chief L'Jarius Sneed.

"The Chiefs traded away Trent McDuffie and lost Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams in free agency. If the season started today, there's no telling who would play cornerback for Kansas City. Perhaps a reunion with Sneed, who struggled with injuries in Tennessee, is in the offing."

CBS recommends reunion for Chiefs and L'Jarius Sneed

This isn't necessarily a new idea that's been floated around. Sneed played his best ball while he was in Kansas City under Steve Spagnuolo's tutelage and Brett Veach made the right call in not giving him an extension. Instead, Sneed was traded to Tennessee where he struggled to stay healthy and played in only 12 games during his two years with the Titans as a result.

When Sneed was on the field in 2025, he wasn't great, finishing the year with a meh PFF rating of 50.4 and a coverage grade of 49.5. So, in other words, he's probably not the solution to the Chiefs' cornerbacking woes.

That being said, he'd be a cheap option on the free-agent market and perhaps if he were to be brought in, it could be more as a depth purpose and insurance policy rather than as a starting option. The Chiefs need to find starters for their secondary in the draft (and Pereles said LSU's Mansoor Delane was the best fit for them there) but it's never a bad idea to have solid depth.

Considering the success Sneed had with Spags as his defensive coordinator, it wouldn't be a crazy thought to bring him in. If he's the starting option when Week 1 of the 2026 season rolls around, however, then that'd be a big ol' yikes for the Chiefs' defense. Let's hope other reinforcements are on the way.
