The 2025 NFL season was not a fun one for Kansas City Chiefs fans. Not only did they have to watch their own team struggle throughout the year, winning just six games and missing the playoffs for the first time in over a decade but they also had to suffer through the Denver Broncos winning the division and reaching the AFC title game.
Unfortunately, Chiefs fans will need to get used to hearing about how the Broncos are a contender again. That's why it's refreshing whenever an unbiased outlet writes something negative about them and the latest to do so Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report.
Gagnon didn't necessarily trash the Broncos but he said that he believes their move of acquiring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins could end up backfiring on them. Denver sent a first, third, and fourth-rounder to the Dolphins in exchange for Waddle and therein lies the problem, according to Gagnon.
"That's a lot of lost draft capital for a guy who has rarely been relied on as a No. 1 receiver. The five-year veteran has just one season with 1,100 yards or more than six touchdowns, but he'll cost $27.1 million against the cap in 2027. This is a big change that may not have been necessary, and could potentially do more harm than good."
Chiefs fans hope this Jaylen Waddle-Broncos prediction pans out
This would be music to Chiefs fans' ears if this prediction panned out. The Broncos gave up a lot of draft picks to acquire Waddle in the hopes that he'd help out their offense so if he ended up being a big ol' bust, that'd be pretty funny.
As Gagnon alluded to, Waddle hasn't had the task of being the guy during his time in Miami but, then again, he'll have Courtland Sutton taking some of that pressure off of him in Denver. Still, the Broncos are banking on him being a superstar in the Mile High city and it'd be pretty funny if they surrendered all of that draft capital and he didn't pan out for them.
Kansas City is hoping to reclaim the AFC West this season and the Broncos are the team they'll have to dethrone to do so. Waddle not living up to what he was traded for would go a long way in helping the Chiefs get back to the top of the division where they belong.
