Rashee Rice is about to enter his fourth year in the NFL, all with the Kansas City Chiefs. The former second-round pick out of SMU exploded onto the scene as a rookie, tallying 938 yards and seven touchdowns but an injury cut what appeared to be a promising sophomore season short.
Last year, Rice underwhelmed, finishing the season with 571 yards and five touchdowns. Those wouldn't be bad numbers if Rice was further down on the depth chart but fans certainly expected more from him.
The wide receiver room lost Hollywood Brown in the offseason so now the starting group currently consists of Rice, former first-rounder Xavier Worthy, and former Patriots castoff Tyquan Thornton, who decided to remain in Kansas City after an impressive year.
Rice was on a live stream and was asked about the Chiefs' wide receiver situation, specifically if he'd prefer the team to add a veteran or a rookie. Rice said it didn't matter to him.
"Don't matter," Rice replied. "A.J. Brown would be nice in the room, but if we go get Carnell Tate or something, that'd be fine, too... I ain't gonna lie, that's going to be crazy. We a young room already, so it don't really matter what we do, bro. We already young anyway."
Rashee Rice quietly reveals why Chiefs wideouts could surprise everyone
Rice isn't lying when he said that the wide receiver room is young. Rice is one of the more senior members of the room and he's turning 26 years old in a few weeks. Worthy is turning 23 in a few weeks, Thornton is 25, Jalen Royals is 23, Nikko Remigio is 26, and Jason Brownlee is the eldest of the group at 27.
As for the players Rice namedropped, either would be exciting options but don't seem all that likely to happen. The Chiefs haven't even been in the discussions to trade for A.J. Brown, and Carnell Tate, while a fun addition, very well could be off the board by the time K.C. is on the clock come draft night.
It's still fun to think about though. This is a young receiver room that didn't live up to the hype this past season so let's hope they've put it all together and can have an explosive season for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2026.
