This year's head coaching carousel has included multiple surprises, but few teams pulled off the sort of shocker that the Buffalo Bills did when they announced the firing of Sean McDermott. The Bills were hardly the only team to part ways with a longtime leader, but suffice it to say, their decision to replace him hasn't gone as hoped—at least for Bills fans.
On Tuesday, the Bills announced the end of their search for a new head coach. They'd found McDermott's replacement in a familiar place: Buffalo. The team's decision to promote Joe Brady from offensive coordinator to head coach was yet another confusing layer in a story that's become quite depressing for Bills fans.
Brady will receive an ice-cold reception from fans when introduced to the media as the new head coach of the Bills. After all, he was part of those being held responsible for the team's inability to make a Super Bowl in recent years despite having Josh Allen as a franchise quarterback. For fans hoping that McDermott's firing might lead to an overhaul of leadership, Brady's ascent (as well as the indefensible promotion of general manager Brandon Beane in the midst of all of this), Brady's hiring was an insult.
The reactions online from Bills fans were priceless following the confusing hiring of Joe Brady as the team's head coach.
For Kansas City Chiefs fans and others on the outside, however, it's quite glorious to see the Bills floundering as an organization. There's no denying that Buffalo is an annual contender in the AFC, so after a six-win season, it's nice to see other proven powers struggling to move forward as well. It's also quite fun for fans to check out reactions on social media to the Brady decision.
Joe Buscaglia, the Bills' reporter for The Athletic, put out a quick Twitter poll and gave online fans a chance to give a clear thumbs-down to the team's decision to put Brady at the helm.

From there, the responses only got more demoralizing for insiders and hilarious for those on the outside. The implosion of the Bills feels imminent, or at least that's how Bills fans are interpreting things. At the very least, however, they deserve credit for their sharp wit.
It's hard to argue with the progression of things in Buffalo when you list them like this.
Brandon Beane: “So what would you do to change our offense?”

All other candidates: “We would definitely need to get better WRs in here.”
Joe Brady: “We have what we need, we just need to get them the ball.”
Beane to Brady: “You’re hired!!” https://t.co/7nEKyBNkTh
Someimes the image is everything.

After a while, the depressive sense begins to take over even for non-fans. Misery loves company, they say, but sometimes it just reaches up to grab you and take you down with it.

It's the same joke, but it's so good that it's worth including.

One of the best responses online was leaning into the recent debacle of a press conference that featured Bills owner Terry Pegula throwing Keon Coleman under the bus (and generally undermining everything an organization works to achieve).
Excuse me if I can step in, Joe Brady was forced to call WR screens on 3 and long. It’s not his fault. pic.twitter.com/XiD9PC4KMF

This pretty much sums it up if you ask Bills Mafia.
