When Isiah Pacheco went down with an injury early in the 2024 regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs needed help at running back. They ended up bringing back Kareem Hunt, who had played for the team in 2017 and part of 2018 after the team spent a third-round pick on him in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Hunt looked to be the next great K.C. running back but after a video surfaced of him pushing and kicking a woman, he lied to the front office and they had no choice but to release him. Hunt eventually landed with the Cleveland Browns where he played for five seasons.
Hunt played well in his return to Kansas City and ended up re-signing with the team in the offseason. When speaking to the media about his return, he said he's was excited to rejoin the team and was optimistic that the Chiefs will end the season the right way this year.
"The culture is just great," Hunt said. "It didn't end the way we wanted it to but we've got a lot of work to do -- and I feel like we've got another good shot at it. You never want to go to the Super Bowl and lose, but I'm just grateful I got to experience that. I definitely want to get back there and see how it is on the other side."
Kareem Hunt thinks the Chiefs can right the ship in 2025
No one would be surprised if the Chiefs went on to represent the AFC in yet another Super Bowl this season so what Hunt is saying isn't shocking. The team does indeed have a "good shot" at getting back to the big game because they're not phased by those bright lights in the big moments.
While the team ultimately got blown out by the Eagles, Hunt's comment about being grateful for the experience makes perfect sense. Hunt just missed out on the Chiefs' dynastic run, as he was released by the team in the 2018 season. It wasn't until the 2019 campaign where Kansas City went on to win its first Super Bowl in five decades. The team went on to appear in three more over the next four years and Hunt was a part of the team's fifth Super Bowl appearance of the Patrick Mahomes era.
Kareem Hunt is saying all of the right things in his second year back with the Chiefs. Let's hope the team does indeed get back to the Super Bowl and that Hunt can win his first Super Bowl ring.
