Chiefs fans get brutal reminder of why L’Jarius Sneed's Titans experiment failed

Maybe a return to K.C. can fix him.

The Kansas City Chiefs clearly made the right decision when it came to L'Jarius Sneed back in 2024. The Chiefs were coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories but Sneed was set to land a new extension and a hefty one at that.

The Chiefs decided to trade their top-notch cornerback to the Tennessee Titans, who then inked Sneed to a four-year deal worth roughly $76 million. Sneed proceeded to play just 12 games for the Titans in two years and was released this offseason.

Naturally, Titans fans aren't happy with what they got from Sneed. He was injury-prone and ineffective when he was on the gridiron and it wasn't surprising when Tennessee opted to move on from their expensive mistake.

Justin Melo of Titan Sized recently wrote about how Sneed no longer being in Nashville means a huge weight is lifted off the Titans' shoulders. He even went so far as to describe Sneed's training camps with the team as "a black cloud".

"Each training camp, the Titans knew that they weren't going to get anything out of Sneed because of a chronic knee injury that required managing. The Titans knew this was something that needed to be monitored during camp, but they expected him to be able to play when the season came around," Melo wrote. "What made things worse was that the Titans had to go into the situation blind each season. Sneed insisted that he would be ready to go to start 2024, and the team had every reason to believe him because he had only missed three games in the previous three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs."

Melo also wrote about how Sneed missed time due to injuries in 2025 as well, suffering a quad injury that sidelined him for half the season. When it was all said and done, Sneed went down in the Titans' history books in one of the worst possible ways.

Now Sneed's back in Kansas City and the good news is that there aren't lofty expectations placed on him here like there were in Nashville. He's on a one-year "prove it" deal and isn't even expected to be a starter in the new-look Chiefs secondary.

The bad news, of course, is the aforementioned injury history. While Sneed didn't miss much time during his original stint in Kansas City, he's now piled up various injuries since leaving and those are going to be concerns during his second stint with the team that drafted him.

If he can overcome those, however, this will go down as a brillant move for Brett Veach and the Kansas City Chiefs. If Sneed continues to get bit by the injury bug, then that's probably a wrap for him in the NFL and at least the Chiefs can say they gave one of their former Super Bowl heroes a chance at redemption.
