It's no secret that the NFL Top 100 Players is not taken seriously by fans. Year after year, we see great players ranked way too low on the list and mediocre players ranked higher than they deserve to be.
The latest example of the former involves a Kansas City Chiefs fan favorite. In the recent rollout of rankings, it was revealed that star center Creed Humphrey came in at No. 94 on the list. You read that right... According to these rankings, Humphrey, who is a two-time All-Pro center, is the 94th best player in the league. How does that make any sense at all?
Creed Humphrey's NFL Top 100 ranking will infuriate Chiefs fans
As with every ranking, the announcement is accompanied by a video. Humphrey’s feature includes clips of his peers praising him, with Trey Smith, Maxx Crosby, Zach Allen, and Joel Bitonio all appearing. Crosby calls him the best center in the league, while Smith notes that playing alongside Humphrey makes his job much easier.
The video even displays a stat from PFF that says Humphrey is the number one rated center. So then why is he so low on this countdown? Is it because the players in the league don't know how to rate centers? Otherwise, I’m completely baffled that Humphrey was nearly left off the list when he’s clearly one of the best players in the league, regardless of position.
To further throw a wrench in the NFL Top 100 rankings, Pete Prisco put Humphrey at No. 23 on his list of top players in the league. That's a 70-spot difference between Prisco's opinion and apparently what the players think. Absurd.
Any list that has Humphrey just four spots ahead of underwhelming Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is not one to be taken seriously, let's just put it that way. Oh, and to further infuriate Chiefs fans, Humphrey's ranking this year is even worse than it was a year ago, as he dropped one spot from 93 to 94.
Sigh... At least Chiefs fans know what Creed Humphrey is worth and it's a heck of a lot more than being the 94th best player in the NFL.
