Kansas City Chiefs fans know all too well the importance of a strong offensive line. Having one can be the difference between winning a Super Bowl and getting blown out in one (or two, sadly).
That's why Brett Veach went to work last offseason revamping the Chiefs' offensive line. He spent a late first-round pick on Josh Simmons and signed Jaylon Moore in free agency. The Chiefs also extended right guard Trey Smith, making a statement that they believed in the guys they had drafted and built up.
As the Chiefs enter an important 2026 campaign, there are plenty of naysayers when it comes to Kansas City's o-line. Warren Sharp is one of those naysayers, ranking K.C. 23rd on his list of NFL offensive lines.
Chiefs' offensive line given poor ranking ahead of 2026 season
With no explanation given on the post, fans were left with no choice but to speculate why the Chiefs' unit was given such a poor ranking. Considering this group has arguably one of the best interior o-lines in the league, it'd lead one to believe that the offensive tackles are what's dragging K.C. down here.
The Chiefs certainly don't seem worried about the offensive tackles they have at their disposal but clearly, plenty of people are. Simmons had a rollercoaster of a rookie year and Moore isn't a consistent starter. To play devil's advocate there, Simmons played well when he was healthy/active and Moore is entering a contract year. Both of those things bode well for Kansas City.
Making that list even worse is the fact that, coming in at No. 1 is the hated Broncos. It wasn't long ago when the Chiefs were beating up on Denver each and every game but the sad reality is that the Broncos' o-line is one of their biggest strengths and it's why Bo Nix has been able to play well during his first two seasons.
The Chargers are eighth on the list and with their strengths at the two tackle spots, it makes sense why. We saw how quickly that went to the gutter last year though when both of their starting tackles got dinged up and had to miss time.
The Chiefs aren't the worst-ranked unit on Sharp's list, as the Raiders come in two spots below them at 25. Vegas' o-line was abysmal last year but the silver and black put in the work to improve the unit this offseason.
It'd be great if Kansas City's offensive line could prove Sharp and all of the other haters wrong. Chiefs fans know what this group is capable of and hopefully soon, so will the rest of the talking heads.
