It happened again. Perhaps that shouldn't be surprising to Kansas City Chiefs fans at this point, but kicker Harrison Butker missed an extra point in the first quarter—and it wasn't even close. In fact, it was so far left that it missed the entire net.
The Chiefs' offense was off and running for the third consecutive week with a strong opening drive that featured great moves by tight end Travis Kelce, an incredible catch-and-run by JuJu Smith-Schuster, and a touchdown grab by Xavier Worthy. The result was an early lead for the Chiefs at 6-3 before Butker took the field.
Harrison Butker's ugly miss has everyone concerned with his performance this season.
Then came yet another miss by Butker—something that has happened in nearly every single game so far this season. While Butker had a perfect night in terms of attempts one week ago in a losing effort to the Jacksonville Jaguars, his final kickoff going out of bounds is what gave Trevor Lawrence such great field position to work with on the final drive—a game-winning touchdown that sent the Chiefs to 2-3.
Butker has already missed three extra points this season and the Chiefs are only six games in. He's also missed three field goals (10 of 13). That's not good for anyone, but it's especially damning considering that Butker has the fourth-highest salary cap hit in the game,
Perhaps the conversation would be different if Butker had lined up for a long field goal attempt and shanked it. However, this is a simple extra point attempt. It wasn't even close. And therein lies the concern with Chiefs Kingdom.
So Harrison Butker has the yips, yeah?

That missed extra point looked like a fan walked in off the street to kick it.
Butker is legitimately worse than the next kicker to sign off the street at this point

This feels accurate.

For those needing a coping mechanism.
I have "Butker" muted right now so my timeline is just completely empty

We're pretty sure this suggestion is a stretch but we're up for anything.
There might be only one person who can solve this Harrison Butker problem. pic.twitter.com/wrfHydC54U

Even those who have tried to stay positive are having a tough time.
I've been of the mind that Butker is in a slump and will work through it, but, oof, just the way he struck that last PAT makes you wonder what it's going to take for him to get back on track.

If you're looking for a way to spin this differently, there's at least one way to view the early miss by Butker.
At least Butker got his miss out of the way early tonight.

Here's hoping that Butker's miss is not the final difference in this game—and that Geoff Schwartz is right that he got his miss out of the way.
