The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was reportedly shot on Sunday night at the couple's home in Ashburn, Virginia. One of the couple's sons has been charged in connection with the shooting.

Per the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the 20000 block of Northpark Drive at 7:32 p.m. Sunday and found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was hospitalized with serious injuries.

ESPN reporter Nate Taylor identified the victim as Mia Bieniemy, 57, and described her condition as stable. Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, the couple's son, was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. Elijah is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Bieniemy was with the Chiefs on Sunday in St. Joseph, Missouri, for the early days of training camp at Missouri Western State University. The Chiefs had rookies and quarterbacks report on July 24, while the rest of the roster is expected by July 28.

The team issued a statement that said, "The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family. Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."

The Chiefs head coach addressed the shooting involving Eric Bieniemy's family on Monday from training camp.

Andy Reid took to the podium to answer reporters' questions about the incident on Monday from camp, leading with the following statement:

"Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts and prayers are with them. I can’t get into details on it, but things happen sometimes, and Eric will work through it. He’s got a great support group here, as does his family as needed, and then we’ll just let time take care of it from there. But Mia is stable, which is a plus, and so is Eric Jr. And that’s all important."

Reid explained that he first found out about the shooting on Sunday evening and that fellow assistant coaches will take over for Bieniemy as the Chiefs get into training camp. Reid said attending to "real life" was his only concern

"On these things… real life, so you take care of that, and that becomes important. Joe Blaymaier is our pass game coordinator, and he’ll be involved there. He’ll obviously coordinate as [Andy] Heck is the run game coordinator, so we’ll be able to keep it moving here. The most important thing is EB has an opportunity to spend some time there and take care of that business."

When asked about his own reaction and how he's doing with things, given his long-standing friendship with Bieniemy's family, Reid said, "I’m good. She’s a saint. We all know that, the people that know her. One of God’s good blessings right there. Special person. But things happen, you know. You have to work through it, so that’s where we’re at right now. Time will have to be involved in this to help heal a little bit, so it will all work out in the long run."
