The Kansas City Chiefs own the ninth pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Kansas City has plenty of needs going into this draft, and one need is at the tight end position. Travis Kelce is returning for a 14th season, but there's a strong chance that this year is going to be his last in the NFL.
What are the chances that the Chiefs end up using the ninth overall pick on Kelce's successor? Former Chiefs backup quarterback Chase Daniel can't even fathom living in that timeline, especially if that selection ends up being Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
"I can’t stop imagining Kenyon Sadiq landing at 9 to the Chiefs & immediately lining up with Patrick Mahomes. Stop it. My brain can’t handle this," said Daniel on a recent social media post.
Chase Daniel wants the Chiefs to draft Kenyon Sadiq so bad
Daniel's reaction is probably the same one a lot of Chiefs fans have when picturing Sadiq in the red and gold uniforms every week. He'd be an unbelievable weapon for Andy Reid's offense and the other 31 teams in the league would likely be cursing under their breaths if Sadiq ended up in Kansas City.
The only real downside to Sadiq potentially being the pick here is that the Chiefs do have bigger needs than at tight end. The counterpoint to that, however, is knowing the team would be in great hands at tight end following Kelce's retirement.
Sadiq had 8 touchdowns for the Ducks a season ago and would give Patrick Mahomes an excellent red zone weapon. We all know how well Mahomes has gelled with Kelce throughout his career so why not ensure that he has another stellar tight end at his disposal? This could be a match made in heaven.
Sure, the Chiefs have other needs, such as edge rusher and cornerback, but Brett Veach has never steered away from taking who he perceives to be the best player available on the board. If that's Sadiq come draft night when the Chiefs are on the clock, then so be it.
Hopefully, Daniel is speaking the Sadiq to K.C. pick into existence and Mahomes will soon have another incredible tight end to throw to.
