"With the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select...". We don't know yet but we'll have the conclusion to that sentence here in a few weeks.
In the meantime, everyone's going to be taking their best guess as to who the Chiefs will take when they're on the clock with the ninth pick. Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report recently wrote about every team's dream scenario in the draft and for the Chiefs, it's something that the rest of the AFC West would hate to see pan out.
"The Jeremiyah Love hype is a smoke screen and the Notre Dame back falls to the Chiefs at No. 9. He turns out to be the weapon Andy Reid needs to get this offense back into elite territory."
Bleacher Report says Jeremiyah Love falling to Chiefs would be dream draft scenario
Oh man. This would be a nightmare for not just the other three teams in the AFC West but for the entire conference. If the eight teams ahead of Kansas City ended up not selecting Jeremiyah Love and he was there for the taking at nine, pairing him with newly-signed Kenneth Walker would give K.C. one of the most explosive backfields in the NFL.
There's no doubt that Love would be an excellent addition to this offense. Before free agency, Love was linked to Kansas City in mock drafts more often than not. After free agency began and Walker joined the Chiefs, however, that changed the narrative there. One, because it led people to believe that K.C. didn't think Love would fall to them and two, because they no longer needed a running back.
Walker being on the roster does likely mean that the Chiefs wouldn't take Love even if he was still available when they're on the clock. That being said, there's no reason we can't talk about it potentially happening. K.C. would go from a team unable to run the football effectively to being one of the best in the league at doing so.
Having such a strong run game would help out Patrick Mahomes and allow the offense to open up more for him. That is a terrifying thought for the other 31 teams in the league. This probably won't happen but hey, it's the offseason so why not talk about the impossible?
