The NFL Draft is a time unlike any other in football; it’s one of the rare moments when production isn’t everything. Once a player gets drafted, their arm length, short shuttle time, or body fat percentage doesn’t really matter. Every year, we see players’ traits get them drafted higher or lower than their on-field production suggests.
This tackle class isn’t particularly full of elite prospects, but few have the traits that Kadyn Proctor has. He came into the season widely viewed as a potential top-10 pick. After a slow start to the season, he quickly fell off that trajectory. However, he finished the season strong and still has an elite set of tools that teams will covet.
While many have written off Proctor after his slow start, it feels like the pendulum has swung too far on his evaluation. A leader of Alabama’s offense and a potential offensive weapon—what’s not to like about Kadyn Proctor, especially if he falls to pick 40?

Massive, densely built and jarring power to displace defenders. Can anchor and finish once latched, playing with a rugged, punishing edge. Needs cleaner pass-pro leverage and lower pad level.

Kaydn Proctor Background
Born in Centerville, Iowa, Proctor attended Southeast Polk High School, where he won the Anthony Muñoz Award for the most outstanding high school offensive lineman. Rated as a five-star prospect by 247Sports, he was the top tackle in the nation and the No. 5 overall recruit in the country. He flipped his commitment from Iowa to Alabama, where he played three seasons as the starting left tackle. Proctor declared for the NFL Draft on January 6, 2026.
Kaydn Proctor's Strengths
Unteachable Traits
Proctor's size and strength are special gifts that almost nobody has. His power and length allow him to dictate reps and remain in control. The profile of a five-star recruit, the fact that he's just 20 years old on draft day, and such an athletic makeup are always worth betting on. He ranks second on the prestigious Feldman’s Freaks list for his 815-pound squat, 535-pound bench press, and 405-pound power clean.
Role
As the starting left tackle, Alabama left him on an island frequently. His 603 true pass sets (non-RPO, play-action, or screen) rank third among draft prospects in the class. He was often used as a puller and in the screen game as well, even getting a few carries and catches as an offensive skill player. Proctor has plenty to point to that suggests he’s an ascending player with lots of growth left.
Anchor
Once Proctor is able to sink his hips in pass protection, the rep is effectively over. His long arms and thick frame make him lethal against bull rushes. If he can get up the arc against speed rushers, they will have an even harder time winning against him. Having that power and length just gives him a much larger margin for error than a smaller tackle prospect.
Kaydn Proctor's Weaknesses
Foot Speed
Does Proctor have the necessary foot speed to climb the arc against speed rushers? Chiefs fans will remember what it looked like watching Orlando Brown Jr. climb the arc, and similar questions remain for Proctor. With that being said, he has a chance to blow up the Combine, while Brown turned in a historically poor Combine performance.
Football IQ
There’s always some miscommunication on an offensive line, but there are some head-scratchers on Alabama’s left side, with lots of unblocked pressures. While they might not all be his fault, McDonald isn’t always helping get people on the same page. Additionally, there are several screens and pulls where he’s just getting cardio and doesn’t find a defender to block.
Technique
Proctor relies on his natural gifts too often. He can bend at the waist and lunge at rushers, causing him to lose the leverage battle. As the season progressed, this improved, but he can still panic and abandon technique, particularly against speed.
Why the Chiefs should remain high on Kayden Proctor?
The raw ability is still extremely high for a very young prospect who has already had a lot put on his plate at Alabama. Moving Proctor to the right side with a potential redshirt year behind Jaylon Moore feels like a great bet. Historically, Andy Reid loves his monster-sized tackles, and Proctor fits that mold. Putting him on the right side with time to develop would be like getting a rookie version of Orlando Brown on the right side, where he was at his best. Even with limited athletic ability, Brown has still had a solid NFL career because of his length and power. That creates a high floor for tackle play. Bet on the traits and the profile, and create an ecosystem that sets him up for long-term success.
