After taking care of business in Week 16, the Kansas City Chiefs now boast a 14-1 record, positioning them to potentially set a new NFL benchmark for total wins in a single season. Following an impressive 27-19 win over the visiting Houston Texans, the Chiefs are in the driver's seat for the AFC's top seed.
The Chiefs' remaining regular-season games are against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 25 and the Denver Broncos on January 4 or 5.
Historically, the 2007 New England Patriots, 1985 Chicago Bears, and 1984 San Francisco 49ers all share the achievement of an 18-1 overall record, including playoffs, marking the highest number of wins in a single NFL season.
The Chiefs' 2024 season has been marked by close wins and crazy finishes, but time and again, they've come away with a victory in 14 of 15 contests. They opened with a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens and have maintained an impressive momentum with wins against formidable opponents like the L.A. Chargers, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers. Their sole loss came against the Buffalo Bills in Week 11.
The Chiefs will be less concerned about winning out the rest of the regular season, however, if it means they can rest some players before the postseason instead. A win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day would give them the chance to sit out in Week 18 along with the Wild Card round of the postseason.
That said, if the Chiefs were to run the table against Pittsburgh and Denver to end the season, it would be incredible to watch them shatter the NFL record for most wins in a year where so many detractors have questioned the team's ability to win when it counts the most.
