Kansas City Chiefs general manager continues to tinker with the roster, deciding among a significant number of younger prospects to round out depth charts at key positions following the team's rookie minicamp held over the weekend. On Monday, the Chiefs announced three new signings for fans to welcome.

Specifically, the Chiefs have signed offensive lineman Kahlil Benson, defensive back Marlen Sewell, and wide receiver Xavier Lody. To make room for each player, the Chiefs have also waived three players: quarterback Jake Haener, defensive end Ethan Hurkett, and defensive tackle Zacch Pickens.

Over 100 players—108, to be exact—participated in the Chiefs' rookie minicamp, and these three prospects came away with official deals on the first Monday morning back in the office. Here's a closer look at each.

Xavier Loyd, WR

A 6-2, 196 lb. wide receiver from Blue Springs, Missouri, Loyd is a local product who started at Kansas State before transferring to Illinois State. He played at Mizzou for his final season in 2025. His best production came at Illinois State, where he caught 66 passes for 912 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2024. He played in all 13 games at Missouri in 2025, primarily as a special teams contributor. It's interesting that he landed with the Chiefs after catching only 2 passes for 21 yards a year ago.

Marlen Sewell, DB

Sewell is a 6-1, 200 lb. safety who spent five full seasons at Vanderbilt, where he was named a team captain. He had 52 total tackles in 2025, 1.5 of them for a loss, and 2 pass deflections. Another unexpected signing based on actual production, but a player's fit is everything and rookie minicamp exists for this very reason—to be able to see these players stacked together for

Kahlil Benson, OL

Kahlil Benson bounced between Indiana and Colorado during his college career, returning to the Hoosiers after a year away with the Buffaloes in 2024. The 6-5, 325 lb. offensive tackle started at right tackle for Curt Cignetti's national championship roster in 2025 and could be an inside play at guard for the Chiefs.
