Twenty five years ago, 71 percent of NFL teams headed away from home to "enjoy" training camp in a remote environment, to allow for community to form away from the comforts of home in an undistracted space. This year, only six teams will host training camp away from their home quarters, the Kansas City Chiefs being one of them, driven by the long-held tendencies of a Mt. Rushmore head coach.
The Chiefs open training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph for the 16th year on July 29. Quarterbacks and rookies report on July 24, while other players follow suit by July 28. One day later, season ticket holders will be treated to the first of 18 practices intended to sift through roster competitions and ready a roster that fell far short of expectations a year ago.

Chiefs injury updates
Andy Reid and his staff will give a full update on player injuries after preseason physicals are finished to start camp. But key players to keep an eye on, beyond Patrick Mahomes, of course, can be found on both sides of the ball. On defense, Omarr Norman-Lott, Mansoor Delane, and Felix Anudike-Uzomah are key names to watch. On offense, the list is even more important, with Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice leading a group of players who will be a focal point for reporters' questions at the start of camp.
Latest practice updates
July 24: Patrick Mahomes is expected to be "fully cleared" for training camp activities, per Albert Breer. But also of concern will be his workload even if he's technically healthy enough to handle those activities coming off a torn ACL and LCL.
