The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a rare losing season, notching just six wins in 2025. It was disappointing considering this team had appeared in five Super Bowls since the 2019 season and, as long as Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback, they're always a force to be reckoned with.
While the consensus is still that Mahomes is a great player and one of the best quarterbacks in the league, it was a bit of a surprise to see how low he ranked in the MVP voting in the latest round of predictions for key awards from NFL.com. While Mahomes did run away with the Comeback Player of the Year prediction, he's made it to five Super Bowls and won three of them. He's also been crowned NFL MVP twice during his career yet received just one vote in the predictions for the prestigious award.
Instead, Josh Allen led the way there with Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert tied for second place. Mahomes landed in a three-way tie for sixth place with Brock Purdy and Caleb Williams.
Chiefs somehow have almost no award buzz despite their loaded roster
This just goes to show that despite Mahomes being Mahomes, he has to prove to people that he can bounce back after the first major injury of his pro career. He's turning 31 in September and now might have to adjust the way he plays after that injury.
Mahomes wasn't the only Chiefs player disrespected in this survey though. Some other awards that the NFL.com staff went through that jilted Kansas City stars included Protector of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
Creed Humphrey somehow didn't receive a single vote for Protector of the Year, which is madness considering what a beast he is at center. Mansoor Delane, the Chiefs' first-round pick out of LSU, also did not receive a vote for DROY, which is a bit surprising considering how high he was drafted and who his defensive coordinator is.
As for Coach of the Year, Andy Reid received one vote but that's a bit shocking given his track record. He could easily turn things around for the Chiefs in 2026 and lead them back to the Super Bowl after a disappointing season but only one person felt he'd be good enough to earn a Coach of the Year nomination.
It's pretty wild to see how disrespected the Chiefs roster is. Sure, they had a bad year in 2025 but this is largely the same core that went to the Super Bowl in 2024 and, as I mentioned before, as long as Mahomes is the quarterback, this team should always demand respect. Apparently, others don't agree.
