Chamarri Conner suffers head injury against Browns in Week 15 (updated)
By Matt Conner
Update: Conner has been designated as "out" for the rest of the Chiefs' game against the Browns with a concusson.
Injuries to the Kansas City Chiefs secondary has already forced the unit to be a place of constant experimentation for the team's coaching staff under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo so far in 2024. Even now, the Chiefs are still searching for the right places for some players' talents on the roster, and they even recently added further competition in Steven Nelson.
Unfortunately the Chiefs are now dealing with another hurdle with the injury to Chamarri Conner.
The Chiefs are visiting the Cleveland Browns in Week 15 and came into the game already down starting boundary corner Jaylen Watson for the season. Shortly before halftime, Conner became the latest cornerback to become injured when he suffered an obvious head injury while tackling Browns running back Nick Chubb.
Conner required a few minutes before trainers helped him to the sideline. He was then seen walking back to the Chiefs locker room, and questions about a potential concussion were being asked on social media shortly thereafter.
Conner has been part of the rotation of corners filling in at new spots in the wake of Watson's loss—mostly in the slot as Trent McDuffie has picked up a heavier load outside. So far this season, Conner has 2 picks, 4 pass deflections, 1 sack, and 68 total tackles for the Chiefs coming into Week 15.
According to head coach Andy Reid following the game, Conner does have an official concussion.
"Chamarri Conner has a concussion. Tough kid. Boy, I'll ya. He took a wallop and he gave a wallop and got kneed in the side of the head there. But he's doing well now which is the most important thing and we should be good there."
