Caitlin Clark is going to take offense if you refer to her as a bandwagon fan.
When it comes to her membership in Chiefs Kingdom, the basketball phenom was born into it, with familial ties that go back generations. Her entire family nurtured a love for the Chiefs growing up, and her fandom continues to this day into the team's golden era.
Clark was the latest guest of Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce on the brothers' uber-popular podcast known as New Heights. Their entertaining interview with Clark talks about a number of subjects—from her record-setting college career to the state of the WNBA to NBA ratings—but nothing was more important than hearing her discuss the Chiefs.
Jason and Travis Kelce never lack for great guests on their podcast
"I'm a Midwest kid. There's this picture of me that's been circulating from a couple of years ago when I was on Peyton and Eli's Monday night show where I'm in a full Chiefs outfit. I had family in Kansas City and I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, which is only 3 hours from Kansas City. So that's just the closest NFL team. My dad was a big Chiefs fan growing up," said Clark.
Clark also referenced attending one game each year growing up with cousins livign in Kansas City. Her family continues to visit games today and she said their last visit came on Christmas Day in 2023.
"People think I'm like a bandwagon Chiefs fan. I'm like, 'No! I was there before Patrick and Travis.' We were ride or dies. We've been big fans and now obviously all the success you guys have had has made it a lot of fun for us," she said.
Clark did offer up an interesting note about meeting the architect of the Chiefs roster—general manager Brett Veach—while in Indianapolis during her career at Iowa.
"I've known Brett Veach for a while. It's actually kind of crazy. So when I was in college, we played the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis and it was at the time of the time of the Combine, so Brett was staying in our hotel. That's how I first got to know him back in my sophomore year in college and we've stayed in touch ever since," she said.
Now she can say she knows the Kelce's, too. If anything, Clark might soon have her own podcast on which she can call in such celebrity favors to support her own creative endeavors.
