Browns create hilarious blooper reel in rock-bottom performance against Chiefs

The Cleveland Browns would love a mulligan.

While very few expected the Cleveland Browns to actually be able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs during their scheduled visit in Week 15, given the disparity in wins and overall talent on the roster between the NFL franchises, there was at least a belief that the fight offered by the home team would at least be more substantial than it was.

Instead, the Chiefs largely sauntered their way to victory over the Browns on Sunday by simply showing up and not shooting themselves in the foot. The end result was a banner day for the Chiefs' defense, an embarrassing one for the Browns' offense, and a 21-7 point victory for the Chiefs to move to 13-1 on the season.

The Browns seemed intent on losing this game from the start.

In case you missed the comedy of errors served up by the Browns on Sunday, we've got you covered with the highlights (or from Cleveland's perspective, those would be lowlights).

First, the Browns' defense came up with a solid start to the game and forced the Chiefs to go three-and-out. However, as Chiefs punter Matt Araiza punted the ball 38 yards, Christian Roland-Wallace came up with the forced fumble on the other end and Samaje Perine came up with the ball.

Suddenly the Chiefs had the ball again and in great field position. The Chiefs would take an early 7-0 lead here when Patrick Mahomes found JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 7-yard score.

About 12 minutes later of game time, the Browns were really moving the ball well for the first time on offense. However, Jameis Winston got a bit too confident and attempted the deep ball to Elijah Moore on the play-action call only for Chiefs safety Bryan Cook to come up with a big interception in the end zone. Suddenly the lead was preserved and the Browns blew their best chance of the first half.

Early in the third quarter, the Browns began with the ball and hopes of putting up some points after falling behind 14-0 to the visitors. However, Winston once again throws an interception, although this time the blame doesn't fall on him. Instead, it was running back Nick Chubb who just can't hang onto the ball and it ricochets into the waiting hands of Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton

That drive would give the Chiefs the ball back at the 34-yard line and the Chiefs would take advantage with a 21-yard touchdown run by Xavier Worthy to go up by three scores with a 21-0 lead for K.C.

The Browns' fourth turnover—yes, FOURTH giveaway—of the day came when Chubb was once again running the football. Chubb had a nice seven-yard gain at the time but ended up coughing the ball up when Leo Chenal came in hard. Fellow Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill came up with the ball and the Browns were once against stymied offensively.

During a rare drive late in the third quarter, the Browns' offense came alive as Jerome Ford scored on a 62-yard run. From there, the Chiefs was forced to punt and it looked as if Cleveland might begin to claw their way back. As Winston and company drove down the field early in the fourth quarter, he attempted to find his way back into the end zone and instead found Trent McDuffie.

Yes, that's McDuffie's first ever takeaway and that was another turnover for the Browns—their fifth on the day.

Somehow the Browns still were not done. Late in the fourth quarter, the Browns had turned over the reins at quarterback to Dorian Thompson-Robinson and in a last gasp effort to create some real momentum, he ends up overthrowing tight end Blake Whiteheart and finding Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks instead.

Here's the thing to remember: the Chiefs came into the week in 29th place (out of 32 spots) in the NFL in total takeaways. The total before today was 10 takeaways in 13 games. On Sunday, they had six.

It turns out the cure for getting away from nailbiter wins is to have the other team shoot up a blooper reel's worth of mistakes.
