The Denver Broncos waived tight end Greg Dulcich on Monday, creating an opportunity for other teams to grab the young pass catcher on waivers. The Kansas City Chiefs should be among those franchises considering the submission of a waiver claim.

Dulcich, known for his speed, route-running ability, and reliable hands, has shown flashes of high potential as a receiving tight end. He entered the NFL as a junior early entrant out of UCLA and the Broncos seized the opportunity to enhance their offense in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, the lows have come more often than the highs for Dulcich in his NFL career with a substantial injury history despite his short span in the league.

Dulcich profiles as an athletic receiving tight end with solid hands. The downside was that he was a liability as a blocker, and combined with the injury history, the Broncos decided to cut ties in order to accommodate other players they needed to bring back onto the active roster.

In 2022, Dulcich had 33 catches for 411 receiving yards and 2 scores in only 10 games played. It was a promising start, but even then there were health concerns. From there, Dulcich would go on to play six more games in the next two seasons (including '24) and the unpredictability of his availability proved to be a headache on a roster where every position was important.

As for the Chiefs, this year has been a tough one at the position. Travis Kelce has remained effective but not as dynamic. Meanwhile, the Chiefs' own fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Jared Wiley out of TCU, was lost for the season due to injury. The same can be said of veteran Jody Fortson, knocking two of four tight ends on the roster out for the season.

The good news is that Noah Gray is having a standout season for the Chiefs, and together with Kelce, the Chiefs remain very productive at tight end overall. However, Dulcich would be a smart grab. Securing a young, talented option like Dulcich could help fortify the position both now and in the future.
