This isn't a secret. Kansas City Chiefs know good and well what one of the top offseason priorities has to be for Brett Veach.
Last year was a complete and utter disappointment on so many levels, but one of the areas that stuck out is a spot any Chiefs fans could've seen coming. The rushing attack was not even close to being good enough.
And, one of the top solutions available for the Chiefs, this offseason, is free agent running back Breece Hall, who is surely to leave the New York Jets. FOX Sports' expert Greg Auman listed Hall as his no. 11 overall free agent available in a recent free agency rankings piece, and the rumored price tag feels like a no-brainer.
"He'll challenge Walker for the high-dollar back in this free-agent class, north of $10 million a year."
Brett Veach has no excuses ... Breece Hall should be a Chief in a matter of weeks
I know what so many Chiefs fans might already be thinking: "The Chiefs have the worst cap situation in the NFL."
And you'd be right!
But, as we have learned time and time again, the cap can be manipulated. We already highlighted some key ways the Chiefs could open up a whopping $70 million in cap space, and that doesn't even count the players Kansas City could cut.
So, let's not even worry about the cap. Veach will make a way to get things done which need to get done.
As for Hall, he should be the Chiefs' top option outside of maybe Kenneth Walker, who very well could return to the Seattle Seahawks. If he winds up costing the Chiefs $12 million annually, or even up to $15 million, Veach shouldn't blink.
Do we want to make another run at a dynasty, here, or what? That's the type of contract you get done as soon as the opening free agency bell rings, period.
Hall would give the Chiefs exactly what they've been missing for a while, and that's an explosive playmaker out of the back field. When your leading rusher is Patrick Mahomes and he winds up tearing his ACL towards the end of the year, that should be the final straw.
That's your ultimate wake-up call.
Mahomes cannot be the guy carrying the load on the ground. That's despicable, to be quite frank.
Hall is only 24 years old (he'll turn 25 in May) and has played in 16 games each of the last three seasons. He's coming off a career year which saw him rush for over 1,000 yards and you wouldn't even know it with how bad the Jets were.
Hall's ability to break off a big play, at any given moment, is precisely the element this offense has been missing. With an aging Travic Kelce and the inconsistency from this wide receiver room, Hall would be a welcomed constant. He'd set the tone and open things up so much more for Mahomes to make his own magic happen.
