One of the biggest storylines as soon as the Kansas City Chiefs' offseason got underway was what would the future hold for Travis Kelce? Would the star tight end hang up the cleats after 13 seasons in the league or would he return for a 14th season?

As we know, Kelce decided to give it another go. During an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach talked about when he first knew Kelce was coming back for another season. Turns out, he didn't have to wait long for an answer.

"We came back [to Kansas City] that Monday [after the season ended]. We had player exit interviews, and Travis popped in the office... We talked about a lot of stuff on the coaching staff, on the roster staff... He basically said, 'I'm not going out like this'," Veach recalled. "I think internally, we knew he was coming back right away... He's such a competitor... Him and [Patrick Mahomes] have almost like a brother-like relationship. It's not even a teammate relationship... I think there's an element of Travis wanting to see Pat through this rehab process."

Travis Kelce gave Brett Veach immediate answer on Chiefs future

Chiefs fans won't be surprised to hear that this was Kelce's response as soon as the season ended. It was the first time in his pro career that he had been on a losing team so it makes sense that he'd want to rectify that and try to go out on a better note.

It also checks out that Kelce wouldn't want his career to end with anyone other than Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball. Mahomes missed the final three games of the season due to the injury he sustained late in the year so that clearly factored into Kelce's decision to return as well.

One way or another, Chiefs fans are happy to have Kelce back. It'd have been sad for his career to have ended on a losing note and without his quarterback throwing to him so hopefully, he and Mahomes can pick up where they left off. It'd also be great if the Chiefs could finish the season the right way this time, with a Super Bowl victory and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, and send Kelce off into retirement with the best possible ending.
