Bo Nix has his critics, but there's no denying that the Denver Broncos have enjoyed a greater level of success with him as their quarterback.
When the Broncos submitted their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft with Nix's name on the card, they were already taking QB5 in the draft order. The 2024 draft featured several teams trying to find their franchise icon, and Denver's decision to take Nix so high at No. 12 was a bit surprising. Yet the Broncos have to be quite pleased with the results given their 10-7 season last year and first-place run in 2025.
The Broncos reached double-digit victories last season for the first time since 2015, and Nix and comapny are now in the pole position in the AFC West at 8-2 overall, one game above the L.A. Chargers in second place and two games ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs in third place at 5-4.
The Chiefs come out of the bye in Week 11 with an important road trip to play Denver, which gives them a chance to tighten the rare divisional deficit. Much of that will come down to Nix's play and development in his sophomore season. Despite Denver's success, Nix has his detractors and has yet to make a believer out of everyone.
We recently asked some questions of Lou Scataglia of Predominantly Orange, our sister Denver Broncos site at FanSided, to tell us more about Nix's evolution in his second season and what he's capable of when the lights are brightest.
Can you take us through a progression of how Nix has developed (or not) as the conductor of the Broncos' offense in 2025?
Bo has definitely been a lot more in command at the line of scrimmage and seems to be way more willing to push the ball down the field. He’s also taking sacks at a lesser rate, which is insane given how good he was at it coming into the season.
Has there been any frustrations there in terms of expectations and outcomes?
There have definitely been some frustrations. Record-wise, it’s been awesome, but the way Denver has gotten to 8-2 is obviously very unconventional. The main frustrations are with Nix and the offense not finding a consistent rhythm. There are more issues than Nix regressing,
What do you think people underestimate or overlook about Nix as QB?
His ability to avoid sacks might honestly be at an all-time level already. He doesn’t get many designed QB runs, but is sensational with the ball in his hands. He can also heat up pretty quickly, and there are already numerous games of evidence during his career where he simply catches fire early on.
Do you think Nix has what it takes to deliver in a big game?
Yes, absolutely. He delivered a big game last year in Arrowhead and delivered late in games. Bo Nix is a large reason why Denver is 8-2. Nix absolutely has a clutch gene in him and has had a ton of big games despite still being early in his career.
