The Kansas City Chiefs need help in their backfield and there might not be a hotter name on the free agent block this offseason than reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker. While it might not seem realistic for the Chiefs, who are in the worst situation as far as cap space is concerned, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report didn't stop that from including Kansas City on his list of landing spots for Walker in 2026.

Moton mentioned how the Chiefs can clear up enough cap space to offer Walker a competitive contract and also how the team will want to give Eric Bieniemy an effective lead rusher as he returns to his old role in K.C.

"In each of the last four seasons, Isiah Pacheco or Kareem Hunt has led the Chiefs' ground attack. Neither eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in those years. Kansas City hasn't had a 1,000-plus-yard rusher since Hunt won the rushing title with 1,327 yards in his 2017 rookie campaign.

With quarterback Patrick Mahomes coming off a torn ACL and his early-season availability for 2026 uncertain, Kansas City could swing big for Walker as part of a plan to rely more on its run game than in recent seasons."

Kenneth Walker acquisition would be a dream come true for Chiefs

There's no doubt that Walker would pack the kind of punch the Chiefs could use in their backfield in 2026, which is a huge year for this team. The 2025 season saw the Chiefs miss the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era and it's incredibly important that Brett Veach make the necessary moves to get this team back into contention.

Bringing in Walker, who rushed for over 1,000 yards and five touchdowns in the regular season, would give the Chiefs the lead back they've been missing in their offense in recent years. As Moton noted, Pacheco and Hunt simply haven't gotten it done for this team and, with Patrick Mahomes coming off a major injury, ensuring he has a good run game to help him out is crucial.

If the Chiefs want to get back to being Super Bowl contenders, swinging for someone like Walker is something they need to strongly consider. It's hard for the offense to keep defenses guessing if there's not a great run game, and Walker would fix that issue.

Other teams are obviously going to be in the mix for the reigning Super Bowl MVP, including the team he just won a championship with, but the Chiefs would have to be a tempting team for him to sign with if given the opportunity.
