One of the coolest aspects of being a Kansas City sports fan is seeing how all of the sports teams in this city support one another. One prime example of that is all of the representation from the Kansas City Chiefs (and Royals) at Kansas City Current games.
For those Chiefs fans who might not be aware of who the Current are, they're the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) team right here in K.C. Last year, the Current hoisted the NWSL Shield, which is awarded to the team with the best record in the league. While they didn't go on to win the championship, it was still a season to remember.
The Current are at home on Friday night against the Houston Dash and leading the famous "KC Baby" chant is none other than Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. It's not the first time Reid has led the chant either, doing so in each of the last two seasons.
Andy Reid to lead "KC Baby" chant at Kansas City Current game on Friday
The "KC Baby" chant is simply just that. The person leading the chant counts down the crowd right before kickoff and everyone in the stadium yells "KC BABY!" Then the whistle blows and it's time to play some soccer.
Chiefs fans probably know that Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes are co-owners of the Current with Brittany owning a stake in the team from the time they arrived in Kansas City in late 2020 and Patrick joining a few years later. The two frequently attend games with their children and it's not uncommon to see several other members of the Chiefs in attendance as well.
The Current play at CPKC Stadium, which is the first stadium designed for a women's soccer team in the world. Pretty cool, right? It's become a fortress for this team since opening in March 2024 with the team only losing once there during the regular season.
Let's hope Big Red can bring some big-time luck for Teal Town this Friday night as the Current hope to get their fifth win of the season.
