Before the Kansas City Chiefs headed into their final break before training camp, the team made the decision to sign veteran cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Kansas City drafted Sneed back in 2020, and he developed into an impact defender, helping the team win two Super Bowls in his first four seasons.

After two years away, both spent with the Tennessee Titans, Sneed is back with the team on a one year deal. His teammates who were around during his first stint are excited that he’s back, and so is head coach Andy Reid.

Reid spoke with the media on Thursday, and he had some great things to say about the return of Sneed. The head coach expressed that he is a big fan of the corner, and that Kansas City’s excitement in welcoming him back shows how good of a person and player Sneed is.

This isn’t just a sentimental signing though, as Reid explained how the corner can still bring value to the team on the field. He explained that Sneed went through a lot health wise in Tennessee, and that played a part in his underwhelming play.

Now that Sneed is healthy, Reid expects him to be the reliable corner that Chiefs fans knew.

Andy Reid believes a healthy L’Jarius Sneed will be good for Chiefs

In addition to his actual play, Reid is excited about the leadership Sneed will provide in what has become a young Kansas City secondary. The head coach explained that Sneed has seen a lot in the NFL and in life, and Reid believes Sneed will be open to sharing his perspective to help the young guys.

When Reid was the young guy in Kansas City, it didn’t take him long to become a contributor. As a rookie, he played in nine games and started six. By year two, he was a full-time starter, and went on to finish his first Chiefs stint with 54 starts, in 57 appearances, posting 10 interceptions, 40 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, 6.5 sacks , and 303 tackles.

The impressive four years earned him a four-year, $76.4 million contract with the Titans. However, after just 12 games in two seasons, Tennessee decided to move on from the corner. That led Sneed back to Kansas City, where he and the Chiefs are determined to help both sides get back on track.
