This would have been a surprise.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to get more production out of their wide receiver room this year than they did last year. The starting trio of Rashee Rice, Tyquan Thornton, and Xavier Worthy is a young group that hopefully can help Patrick Mahomes out in a big way in 2026.

According to Adam Schefter, the Chiefs reportedly were trying to add another starter to their roster. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, Schefter revealed that the Chiefs were one of the teams in on Jauan Jennings, who ended up signing a one-year deal with the Vikings.

"I was told there were a few other teams, I think it was the Dolphins, the Commanders ... the Vikings were the only team that, I believe, he wound up visiting at all. Oh, the Chiefs were also interested. Ultimately, he got a 1-year deal from Minnesota."

Chiefs were reportedly interested in signing Jauan Jennings

Chiefs fans might best remember Jennings for the performance he had against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. The then-49ers wide receiver nabbed four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown, averaging 10.5 yards per catch. He was a thorn in Kansas City's side, that's for sure.

Jennings had 55 catches for 643 yards and nine touchdowns last year, numbers that the Chiefs would have loved to have had on their offense. He's now off to Minnesota where he'll team up with Justin Jefferson catching passes from Kyler Murray.

Jennings' presence would have been a nice get for the Chiefs, especially on the bargain deal he ended up signing. That being said, the Chiefs re-signed Thornton because they liked what they saw from him last year, so hopefully, he can continue that production this year.

We'll have to see how Jennings performs in Minnesota but if he balls out and the Chiefs receivers struggle once again, this could be looked at as a massive missed opportunity for Brett Veach.
