The 2026 season could not have started much better for the Kansas City Chiefs, who are 4-0 following their early-season bye week. Coming off their worst season in over a decade in 2025 and finishing with the ninth-worst record in the NFL, Brett Veach and the Chiefs' front office completely retooled the roster.
The Chiefs have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL, ranking third behind the Dolphins and Browns, with an average age of 25.7 years. Kansas City will not have many players due for major extensions at the end of their rookie deals. But the Chiefs still have several players they could target for extensions in 2028 and beyond.
Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DL
After being a first-round pick for the Chiefs in the 2023 NFL Draft, FAU has had a rocky start to his career. He has struggled to stay healthy and get consistent playing time, but this season, he has looked like one of the best defensive linemen in Kansas City. Given his inconsistencies, an extension for FAU would likely be short-term, with a chance to re-up after a year or two, but the Chiefs should look to make a deal before he heads to free agency.
Projected extension: 1 year, $10M with player option for $12M in 2028

Kingsley Suamataia, OL
One of the most underrated players on the Chiefs' roster, Suamataia has grown immensely since moving to guard for the 2025 season. A former second-round pick for the Chiefs in 2024, Kingsley has another year on his rookie deal after this season. But the Chiefs could look to get ahead of his contract and try to extend him. It still seems mysterious why Suamataia was benched for the Chiefs' Week 4 game against the Raiders, but if the Chiefs' staff feels the off-field issues are resolved, he should be next in line for an extension.
Projected extension: Four years, $60M
Noah Gray, TE
One of the Chiefs' most improved players this year, Gray has been a key part of Kansas City's early-season success. The Chiefs have run a lot of heavy packages and relied on Gray as both a blocker and a pass catcher. He has delivered. Gray is a likely cut candidate this offseason, but his play has warranted a return. If the Chiefs want to keep Gray but lower his cap hit, another extension could make sense.

Kristan Fulton, CB
One of the most valuable players on the Chiefs this season, whose impact has gone largely unheralded, Fulton has had two strong years. Fulton becomes a free agent this offseason, and the main question is whether he is comfortable taking a depth role moving forward. With Delane and Williams as outside stars, Fulton would likely serve as the Chiefs' third corner, but his veteran presence off the bench has been valuable. If he is willing to take a lesser role, he may be worth talking to about an extension.
Projected extension: Two years, $20M
Rashee Rice, WR
To the naked eye, Rice seems like the obvious choice to extend next. But his situation is quite complicated. Rice has struggled with injuries and off-field issues that have stained his career, but the Chiefs know the value he can bring to an offense. The Chiefs have tolerated Rice's antics so far, and they may continue to do so. If they choose to extend Rice, the value is hard to project and may come down to a short-term "prove to us you can stay available" type of deal.
