I never would have thought the Los Angeles Chargers would start the season 0-6; I don't think anyone could have predicted this. After watching them lose week in and week out, and now with nine consecutive defeats going back to 2025, all hope is lost for them this season. They are also 0-3 against the AFC West, making their playoff chances slimmer than ever.
With them going on a bye next week, decisions will be made about the coaching staff and the players on the roster. There are even rumors that Mike McDaniel may be out in favor of Adam Gase, who is their passing game specialist.
If the Chargers decide to sell, here are three players that make sense for the Chiefs to look into before the trade deadline.
Khalil Mack could give the Chiefs another dangerous pass rusher
At 35, Khalil Mack has been one of the most productive players on the Chargers' defense. In six games (starting all six), he has 19 total tackles, 3 sacks, 5 TFLs, 10 pressures, and six QB hits on 71% of defensive snaps (276). He still plays as one of the best at his position and can provide value to an already good Chiefs defense.
Some would say, 'Sure, but the Chiefs have Karlaftis and a very good defense. Do they really need to spend more money there?" The answer is yes.
Edge rusher is one of the two most important positions in football, with quarterback being the most important. If you can add another very good pass rusher to that defense, your Super Bowl chances only go up. Furthermore, his contract is only for one year; while some moves would be needed to free up cap space, he can add an extra layer to an already stout defensive line.
Tony Jefferson could help a struggling Chiefs secondary
The safety position has been one of the weakest areas for the Chiefs this season. The Chiefs could bolster this part of their secondary with Tony Jefferson. In six games (starting all six), he has 24 total tackles, one TFL, two pass deflections, a fumble recovery, and ranks 10th in passer rating allowed per PFF (56.3). He also had a critical fourth-and-goal stop this past Sunday in the third quarter:

Jefferson provides the depth and value the Chiefs need at that position. Additionally, he comes at a low price, on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. He is someone I hope the Chiefs try to go for; he is a great leader and player who deserves to keep fighting and playing into the postseason.
Troy Dye would add linebacker depth and special teams value
For more depth in the Chiefs' linebacking corps, they can turn to Troy Dye. Dye has mainly been used as a backup linebacker but has gotten more reps as of late due to injuries.
In six games (two starts), Dye has 23 total tackles, two TFLs, 1.5 sacks, two QB hits, two forced fumbles, and a pass deflection. He also holds a lot of special teams value, having played 88% of special teams snaps this season (143). Dye hasn't played a lot of defensive snaps, with only 19% of snaps this season (74).
You know what you're getting with Dye: a solid contributor and special teams player who has been consistent these past few seasons.
Denzel Perryman is another linebacker the Chargers may trade away; however, he is currently on IR and has been on a downward trend since his Pro Bowl year in 2021.
Are there any offensive players worth pursuing?
On the Chargers, there isn't too much out there on their offense. The Chiefs don't need a running back, as they have a good duo in Kenneth Walker and Emmett Johnson already. Quentin Johnston would be the only WR to look into; however, the Chargers picked up his fifth-year option, making him a less likely trade candidate. The Chargers' entire offensive line is battered with injury concerns, and the Chiefs have the tight end position squared away.
If a move is made by the Chiefs with the Chargers, it will likely be on the defensive side. It will be fun to track what the Chargers do in the coming weeks.
