All is right in the world with Eric Bieniemy back with the Kansas City Chiefs, once again, as the Matt Nagy era is in the rear view. After a season where we saw the Chiefs' offense sputter at times, it will be a breath of fresh air to have Bieniemy's experience and toughness helping run the show again.
The Chiefs have many different areas of need, this offseason, though. It isn't just on the offensive side. But, with Bieniemy back in Kansas City, and his previous team having so much success in 2025, what if he was able to bring some Chicago Bears players with?
The Bears have some notable names entering free agency, but they also might be a potential trade partner for the Chiefs as well. While we aren't necessarily highlighting some Pro Bowl type players, these are a few who could help the Chiefs, nonetheless.
The Chiefs could help patch roster holes with some players having ties to Eric Bieniemy and the Bears
Roschon Johnson, RB
This is an interesting one, because Roschon Johnson saw only two carries last season. After being a fourth-round pick back in 2023, Johnson's role diminished over the years. We aren't quite sure how he fell so far out of favor, but let's not forget he was a highly-talented player back at Texas, serving as Bijan Robinson's backup.
The Chiefs need to completely reset at the running back position. While Johnson won't be a starting-quality back, he could certainly come in and play the Kareem Hunt role well. He's a bigger body who can actually catch the ball, too, and has the potential to be a strong goal line option.
Cole Kmet, TE
The Bears used both Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland at the same time, on many occasions, last year. There is no telling whether or not Chicago would entertain trading Kmet, who is in the middle of a 4-year, $50 million extension that runs through 2027.
But, with the future of Travis Kelce in question, the Chiefs need a backup plan. And, quite frankly, Kmet is more than serviceable. Some fans might even prefer a guy like Kmet over the aging Kelce.
He only caught 30 passes last year and was quickly phased out by Loveland, who became a top option.
Kevin Byard, S
Let's not forget the defensive side of the ball, although Bieniemy didn't have as much contact with these guys. Still, there are some names worth mentioning.
Kevin Byard finished last season as a First-Team All-Pro selection with a league-leading seven interceptions. His leadership is second to none. His savvy football IQ is still way up there. And the Chiefs need help at safety.
What better type of player to bring in than a 2-time All-Pro and someone still playing at a high level?
