Kansas City Chiefs: Top 5 boom or bust players for 2023
3. Skyy Moore
Just one year ago the Chiefs used a 2nd round pick on wide receiver Skyy Moore and everyone was excited about his long-term potential in Kansas City. The table looked set for Moore with the departure of Tyreek Hill and the short-term one-year contract for Juju Smith-Schuster. Andy Reid’s offense is widely known to be hard for rookies to pick up, but with Hill now gone and Juju being a one-year stopgap it looked like Moore would have a year to learn the offense and then a chance to step up and be a key contributor in his second season.
Everything in that first paragraph is still 100% true, but there are still a lot of questions surrounding Skyy Moore. His lack of regular snaps on offense last season combined with some special teams mishaps have many fans questioning if Moore has a future as a key piece in the Chief’s passing attack.
The “boom” scenario for Moore is incredibly high, stepping up and becoming the top pass-catching wide receiver in KC’s offense. Moore has the separation skills to fill Juju’s role in the passing game as well as the run-after-the-catch skills to replace some of Mecole Hardman’s roles as well. If he hits the top of his ceiling he could arguably be one of the biggest breakout players in all of the NFL next season.
The problem is that Moore also has an incredibly low “bust” scenario. It appeared last season that some combination of Andy Reid/Patrick Mahomes didn’t trust Moore yet. If that continues and other wideouts step up and earn that trust and claim those roles there is a very possible scenario where Moore doesn’t see any more playing time than he did last season and his future in Kansas City starts to look questionable.
Next up, a recent signing is going to have a major impact (one way or the other) on the offensive line.
