DeAndre Hopkins spoke about the quarterbacks he’d love to catch passes from most in the NFL and Patrick Mahomes obviously made the list.

The dust hasn’t settled, nor has the smoke cleared, but at least for the last few weeks, since the close of the 2023 NFL Draft, it’s been relatively quiet on the DeAndre Hopkins front. With the dawn of the most boring stretch of the NFL calendar, there’s little urgency for any teams to make any moves and, in fact, a lot of league execs and officials take this time to get away from the grind.

Hopkins has been a popular subject around these parts considering that nearly every rumor loops in the Kansas City Chiefs in some way. Oddsmakers still have the Chiefs listed as a favorite to land him outside of him staying in Arizona, and Hopkins himself has made overtures indicating his interest in potentially playing for Andy Reid.

Despite the persistent trade rumors, the Cardinals have held onto Hopkins through free agency and the draft, and given the downtime, the next time fans will hear about a push to deal him or not will come in mid-July, around the start of training camp for each team.

However, Hopkins’ recent appearance on the popular I Am Athlete podcast stirred the waters a bit as he answered direct questions from hosts Brandon Marshall and Ashley Nicole Moss. Specifically he was asked about the rumors he’s hearing and what’s real or not.

“I’ve heard a lot of rumors of people calling,” said Hopkins. “I would definitely say the Patriots are one of the teams. Obviously, I would say the Bills are one of those teams. I didn’t have direct conversation, but seeing what’s on Twitter, what’s on Instagram, you gotta pay attention to some of those things. Really those are the only two teams that I’ve paid attention to that I was like, ‘All right, let me see if social media was right.’”

When asked about the quarterbacks he would love to catch passes from, he made a short list that also included Justin Herbert thrown in at the end while also listing the obvious candidates. But the love for the Bills continues in both quotes, which seems to indicate a favorite landing spot.

“I would have to say. One of my favorite quarterbacks that I’ve been watching since he came into the league is Josh Allen. Josh Allen reminds me of a new school Andrew Luck. I love Josh Allen. Jalen Hurts, he’s a Houston kid. He’s a dog, Jalen. Number three who I would love to have the ball thrown, Patrick Mahomes obviously. Number four, I’m gonna have to go with an underdog. Not a lot of people respect his guy but as a throwing quarterback, Lamar Jackson.”

Hopkins played in 9 games last season for the Cardinals and had 64 catches for 717 yards and 3 touchdowns.
