Free Agent Edge Players With KC Ties

Frank Clark – Clark is clearly Chris Jones top pick for the Chiefs to add to the edge rotation, but while Clark often turned it on in the playoffs, his regular season tenure in KC was incredibly underwhelming. He’d be a fine piece off the bench if he’d agree to a cheap deal.

Justin Houston – By all accounts, Houston and the Chiefs didn’t part on great terms so this reunion seems unlikely. However, Houston is by far the most talented of the former KC edge players out there in free agency. Despite being 34, Houston has proven he can still be effective as part of a rotation. Houston had 9.5 sacks in 14 games last season.

Carlos Dunlap – Dunlap was a fine rotational piece last season and if he was willing to come back on a cheap deal he could make a lot of sense for KC. He knows the system and wouldn’t expect to be an every down player.

Melvin Ingram – Ingram’s stay in KC was a short one, but he played well down the stretch for them two seasons ago. He was solid again for the Dolphins as a rotational player last season too. Again, if he doesn’t command a big salary he would also be a nice piece to add.

While these four former Chiefs would all make a lot of sense for KC if they’d agree to a reasonable deal and a rotational role, they aren’t the only free agent edge players available. Let’s look at who else is on the market.
