Chiefs news: KC shows interest in productive linebacker from LSU
By Matt Conner
LSU linebacker Micah Baskerville has drawn some attention from the Kansas City Chiefs with the 2023 NFL Draft in just a matter of days.
Linebacker isn’t considered to be a major focal point of the Kansas City Chiefs draft interests heading into 2023, but in the latter rounds in which special teams play becomes important and long-term depth comes into view, the Chiefs might be looking at a very productive prospect in Micah Baskerville out of Louisiana State University.
According to NFL Draft reporter Justin Melo, the Chiefs are among the team’s who’ve met digitally with Baskerville to get to know him a bit better before the 2023 NFL Draft finally takes place later this week in Kansas City.
Baskerville is an older and more experienced prospect after just finishing his redshirt senior season with the Tigers. He played in Matt House’s defense, who was the Chiefs linebackers coach a year ago, giving K.C. an inside scoop on the pro talent and translatability to what Steve Spagnuolo wants a defense to do. In his career, Baskerville had 22.5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 12 pass deflections, and 4 sacks.
Other teams reportedly interested in Baskerville, per Melo, include Zoom meetings taken with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders as well as attendance at the local pro day for the New Orleans Saints.
