Former Chiefs Ben Niemann, Chris Conley find new teams in free agency
By Matt Conner
Both linebacker Ben Niemann and wideout Chris Conley found new teams on Monday in the latest news concerning some former Chiefs players.
It can be a difficult time for a lot of NFL free agents at this point with the annual NFL Draft right around the corner, since most teams have slowed down their activity on the general market until after they figure out what rookies will be coming into view. Fortunately for a couple of former members of Chiefs Kingdom, some teams were not yet done shopping before the draft.
Two former Chiefs players found new homes on Monday in NFL free agency when the news leaked that linebacker Ben Niemann found a home with the Tennessee Titans, while wide receiver Chris Conley signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
Niemann was originally an undrafted free agent signing by the Chiefs back in 2018 and he lasted four years with the club as an excellent special teams player who climbed the depth chart to provide meaningful snaps on defense. He even had 12 starts for the Chiefs in that span. He played with the Arizona Cardinals last year and played in all 17 games, making 9 starts.
As for Conley, he was originally a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. It was reported over the weekend that Conley took a visit to the Niners along with fellow NFL vet Laquon Treadwell and it looks as if Conley won out. The Niners have a prolific offense with a lot of great playmakers, so it will be interesting to see how Conley fits overall and how much usage he gets. The Niners are Conley’s fifth NFL team and this will be his ninth year in the league.
