Patrick Mahomes has a reach of influence and impact that very few can equal, which is why he’s been named to Time’s Top 100 list.

Every year, Time Magazine puts out its annual Top 100 Most Influential Persons list featuring celebrity write-ups of influential people. This year, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made the list, and Time got NFL legend Peyton Manning to write up why Mahomes belongs on the list.

Manning’s write-up is nice and documents why Mahomes is such a compelling figure on the football field. He’s a quarterback for a new generation with tricks and abilities previously unthinkable. He’s elevated the Kansas City Chiefs to must-watch status and made them annual Super Bowl contenders in the process. He’s also won two MVP awards in the last five seasons.

The numbers back up Manning’s points. He’s won 64 of 80 regular season starts to date with 192 touchdown passes with only 49 interceptions in that same span. In five seasons as a starter, he nearly has 25,000 passing yards (24,241) to go with five Pro Bowl appearances and an 11-3 postseason record.

But Mahomes’ influence is felt far beyond the field of play by so many, and it’s here that Manning’s essay should have continued. Mahomes’ foundation, 15 & The Mahomies, has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars of aid for at-risk youth. He’s part owner in the Kansas City Royals, the KC Current, Sporting KC, and Major League Pickleball. He changed Whataburger’s expansion plans, endorsed numerous products from Oakley to adidas, and invested in young companies like AirShare, Whoop, and Hyperice.

Mahomes is a leader of men off of the field and a helper to so many off of it. It makes sense why Time would select Mahomes as one of their top 100 most influential figures for 2023.
