Clayton Tune, Houston
Projected Round: 6-7
Fit in Andy Reid’s offense: Medium
Analysis:
The Chiefs might not be looking for a quarterback with an enormously high ceiling, perhaps they are looking for a career backup that can execute an offense effectively. If so, they should look no further than Clayton Tune. While Tune’s stats would suggest that he stretches the field and is a spread offense-type quarterback, what he really would excel in would be a West Coast Offense, which just so happens to be Andy Reid’s style.
Tune threw for a whopping 4,074 yards and 40 touchdowns. While there are some highlight reel type plays, what we see most frequently from him are throws underneath and high-velocity throws. With that in mind, he is not the best downfield thrower. He struggles in this aspect with both arm strength and accuracy. If the Chiefs wanted someone to play like Chase Daniel or Alex Smith, Tune might be the “system quarterback” that they are looking for.
Tune would make for a great game manager and long-term insurance policy to nab in the later rounds. With a similar skillset to that of Shane Buechele, Tune makes for a cheaper version that would be under contract for four seasons if drafted at the end of this year’s draft.
